MILAGROS BELLO
Dr. Bello has developed her career combining her knowledge in both Art and Sociology. She obtained a Ph.D. in Sociology with a thesis in Sociology of Art at Sorbonne University (Universite de Paris VII-Jussieu). She obtained a French Master’s Degree in Art History (1986), and a French Master’s Degree in Social Sciences (1984) at Sorbonne University. She completed her doctorate under the supervision and tutoring of well-known French sociologist of art Jean Duvignaud at Sorbonne University (Universite de Paris VII, Jussieu) in Paris. She wrote a doctoral thesis in Sociology of Art focusing on the emergence of New Figurative painting in Latin America, and Venezuela. Dr. Bello has developed her career in diverse roles within the visual arts. She has worked primarily as a curator, but also as a professor of art in universities, as an art writer, as a Senior editor of art magazines, and as an art consultant. She was chief curator, director, and founder of former Curator’s Voice Art Projects, during its 10 years tenure. She currently leads the curatorial platform MIA Curatorial projects to foster the contemporary art. She is the consultant editor and art writer for the Art Miami magazine (www.artmiamimagazine.com/mbello). She is a mentor and coach for artists. In 2020-2021 she is curating VR exhibitions for contemporary art such as Subject Matter/Acid Times (November 7, 2020-January 15, 2021, and the current exhibition Nowness. The Pandemic Station. Dr. Bello has been teaching in universities since 2000. In 2011-2014, she taught as full-time faculty at Art Institute Miami International University. In 2007-2010 she taught History of Art at Florida Atlantic University. In 2000, she taught Critical Contemporary Theories at Florida International University. Most recently, she has taught History of Art at the MARANGONI Istituto Fashion Design in Miami.
Dr. Bello is a coach to artists, setting artistic and curatorial strategies for artists to expand and develop their careers, assessing and orienting their artworks to increase competitiveness and best exposure in the art field. She provides one-to-one private sessions, remotely for international artists, or in the artist’s studio.
She has been juror to art contests in contemporary art. She has juried the Wynwood Juried Show in Miami, now in its 10th edition. She focuses on new art practices and new art production.
She writes articles about art for different publications and media outlets. She has worked as an independent curator in the arts for over 30 years.
Dr. Bello has developed extensive curatorial projects focused on contemporary art and the new languages of visual art. Her main goal as a curator is to foster emergent voices of the present-day art scene. Dr. Bello has done this through her role as Director and Chief Curator of Curator’s Voice Art Projects (CVAP) in Miami. Curator’s Voice Art Projects is a curatorial space/gallery that fosters emergent artists and contemporary art, as well as mid-career artists. Dr. Bello regularly presents shows she has curated, or by guest curators.

As the leading Chief Curator and director of former Curator’s Voice Art Projects, her previous gallery/curatorial art space, she has participated in International Art Fairs as such SCOPE Basel, SCOPE New York, SCOPE Miami Beach, Art Wynwood, Art Palm Beach, Reveal Art Fair New York, Pinta Miami, Art Boca Raton, ArteAmericas, Shanghai Art, Arte Americas, Art Shanghai, and renowned international exhibitions such as Personal Structures by European Cultural Center in Venice (Italy) in the context of 57th (2017) and 58th Venice Biennale (2019).
In 2004, Dr. Bello was the Guest Curator at Miami’s Jewish Museum of Florida. In 2005-2007, she was Chief Curator at the Hardcore Art Contemporary Space in Miami curating, among many exhibits, “Happily Ever After” during Art Basel Miami Beach season 2006, “Hardcore Menu. Samples and Dishes” during Art Basel Miami Beach season 2005, “International New Media Festival” 2006 and 2007, respectively. She was curator of Latin American Art at Merrill Lynch Arteamericas Art Fair, Miami, from 2002 to 2007. In 2008, she was the chief curator of NOBE 67 ART, Miami.
Dr. Bello was the Senior Editor from 2001 to 2007 of art magazine Arte al Día International. In 2007-2010, she served as the Art Consultant for this publication. Among others, she has written and compiled the book Wishful Thinking by the artist Rosario Bond. He made the Introduction to the book Coalescing Geometries by the artist Lorien Suarez-Kanerva. She has written the article The De-Construction of the Sight in the work of Jesus Soto, in the book Soto The Universality of the Immaterial, published by the Museum of Latin American Art MoLA in Long Beach, California.
Dr. Bello lives and works in Miami, Florida USA since 2000. She speaks fluidly English, French, and Spanish.
